The Kansas Tax Commission was created in 1907 to succeed the Board of Railroad Assessors and the State Board of Equalization. The Tax Commission consisted of three commissioners appointed by the Governor with the advice and consent of the Senate for four-year terms. It constituted the Inheritance Tax Commission in 1917 and the State Board of Appraisers in 1919. In 1925, the Tax Commission was abolished and its duties transferred to the Public Service Commission's (PSC) Tax Department. When the PSC was abolished in 1929, the State Tax Commission was (re)created to assume all taxation responsibilities of the state. [Wilder, Bessie E.
