Hartwell, Alfred S. (Alfred Stedman), 1836-1912
Variant namesHartwell was born in Natick, Mass. and served in the U.S. Army during the Civil War, with a final rank of colonel. He was a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives in 1867, then attorney general and later Supreme Court chief justice for the Territory of Hawaii.
