Dr. Herbert Keyserling grew up in Beaufort, SC. He graduated from the College of Charleston and Medical College of South Carolina and served as a Navy doctor during World War II. After the war, Keyserling settled in Beaufort with his wife, Harriet, and open a general medical practice. He wrote a book about his experiences in the Navy and Beaufort, called Doctor K.
