Education: Studied design at the Municipal High School of Industrial Arts, Osaka; and studied photography under Takeji Iwayima, Osaka, and Eikoh Hosoe, Tokyo, 1960-63. Career: Worked as a graphic designer in Tokyo, 1958-63. Freelance photographer, Tokyo, since 1963. Member, Vivo group of photographers, Tokyo. Recipient: Most Promising Photographer Award, Japan Photography Critics Association, 1967.

The Japanese photographer Daidō Moriyama founded Workshop Photography School (1974-1976) along with Eikō Hosoe, Nobuyoshi Araki, and other photographers of the post-World War II generation. After the school closed, Moriyama and several of his students established CAMP gallery (1976-1984).
