Fred Lieb was a longtime sportswriter who began his career in 1911. During his career, Lieb worked for the New York Press, New York Post, New York Morning Sun, New York Telegram, The Sporting News, and the St. Petersburg Times. Lieb was active in the National and New York chapters of the Baseball Writers Association, serving for three and five years respectively. He was well respected by major league baseball, and was asked to sit on the rules committee and be one of the official scorers for three World Series. In 1938, at the age of 50, Lieb and his wife started a religious organization, The House of Peace. He won the J.G. Taylor Spink Award in 1972, presented by the National Baseball Hall of Fame for excellence in baseball journalism.
