Martin, Terry (Terry Dean)
Variant namesTerry Martin is a professor in the Department of Molecular Genetics and Cellular Biology and The Cancer Research Center at the University of Chicago. He earned a Bachelor of Science at the University of Adelaide in 1961 and a Ph.D. at the University of Cambridge in 1966.
Martin has been involved in the Chicago jazz scene for over five decades. He wrote liner notes for artists such as Lennie Tristano, Sun Ra, and the Art Ensemble of Chicago. He has contributed to publications including Jazz Monthly and the Art Pepper Companion. Martin also photographed the early scene of the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians.
Martin has been involved with the Jazz Institute of Chicago and is the chair of the Don DeMicheal Archives Committee, which helped create and grow the Chicago Jazz Archive at the University of Chicago Library.
Martin remains involved in the Jazz Institute of Chicago and the Chicago Jazz Festival.
