Timothy Cheney was active as a clockmaker in East Hartford, Connecticut, in the 18th century. He was the son of Benjamin Cheney, Sr. (d. 1760), a carpenter, wheelwright, and joiner. He was the brother of Benjamin Cheney, Jr. (1725-1815), also a clockmaker, and Abiel, a boat builder.
