Miller, James K.

James Knute Miller was born in Tacoma, Washington, in 1946 to a military family. He traveled around the country and to Okinawa, Japan, and Verona, Italy. In 1968, he received his Bachelor's degree from Occidental College in Carmel, California. Refusing to serve in Vietnam, Miller performed service as a conscientious objector from 1970 to 1972 at University Hospitals in Cleveland, Ohio. In 1992, he was a probation officer for Cleveland Heights Municipal Court. Miller married Deborah Van Kleef in 1984, and they have a son, Isaac, born in 1986. Miller has been active in many socialist and political organizations since the late 1960s. He has traveled to countries in Asia, including China (1972), North Vietnam and Laos (1974); and Nicaragua (1984).
