Markov, Sergeĭ, 1906-1979
Variant namesMiklukho-Maclay, Nicolaus Nicolaevitch de (1846-1888), scientist, traveller and explorer, born near Borovichi, Russia. He travelled extensively in the Far East, studying indigenous people, flora and fauna. He visited Australia several times between 1878-1887, conducting an investigation of the labour traffic between Queensland and the Islands and establishing a biological station at Watson's Bay, Sydney.
