Son of Christian and Anna Hoffman, born Jan. 29, 1783. From 1801-1802 he was Postmaster of Woodstock, VA, and of Detroit from July 29, 1805. On June 6, 1804, Gallatin appointed him Register of the Detroit Land Board. He was admitted to the Bar, and in 1806 appointed Collector of the Port of Mackinac. On Feb. 15, 1806, he married Margaret, daughter of Peter Audrain. Hoffman died, March 2, 1810, and in his will attempted to disinherit his wife and unborn son, George Worthington Hoffman. His widow married, Dec. 2, 1813, Col. Samuel Wells of Kentucky.
