Forrest, Alexander, 1849-1901
Variant namesSurveyer, explorer, financier, and politician. Brother of John Forrest with whom he explored in 1869 in search of Leichhardt and in 1871 along the south coast of W.A. to Eucla and S.A. In 1879 he explored from the De Grey to the Kimberley and Fitzroy River, where he took up several pastoral stations with his brothers. He was Mayor of Perth, 1892-1895 and 1898-1900, as well as MLC and MLA for Kimberley.
