Holland, James K., 1822-1898
James K. Holland, 1822-1898, moved to Texas in 1842 and followed his father, Spearhead Holland, into politics. James served in the Texas Legislature (1849-1850; 1853-1854; 1861-1863). During the Mexican War he was a captain with the 17th Rangers with whom he fought at the Battle of Monterrey. Holland also served as a colonel during the Civil War. In addition to being a politician and soldier, Holland was a wealthy planter until he fell off a buggy and died in 1898.
