Virginia Frances Bateman Compton was an English actress. Her parents were theatre managers, and she made her acting debut at the age of twelve. She joined the Compton Company of actors, marrying Edward Compton, and had a long and prestigious career as the company's leading lady opposite her husband. After his death in 1918 she managed the company. She also founded the Theatre Girls' Club. Her children include actress Fay Compton and novelist Compton Mackenzie.
