Boyte, Jack O., 1920-2005
Variant namesJack Orr Boyte was born in Charlotte, NC in 1919 and matriculated through Charlotte public schools, graduating from Charlotte Central High School in 1938. During WWII he was trained as a bomber pilot and served in the Pacific theatre. A chance meeting with an architect in the Philippeans inspired him to enroll in an architecture program at the Georgia Tech School of Architecture after his return from the war. After graduation he first worked for the Louis Asbury architectural firm and later for Walter Hook. Eventually, he and another architect established their own firm: Boyte-Williams, concentrating on historic preservation and restoration. Boyte died in 2005.
