William Warren Sweet was born on February 15, 1881 in Baldwin, Kansas to Rev. William H. and Rose (Williams) Sweet. A leading authority on the history of Christianity, Sweet was the author of twenty-seven books, a professor at Southern Methodist University, and former head of Perkins School of Theology. Paul Sweet was Dr. Sweet's oldest son. He became Consul General to Stuttgart, Germany after World War II and also translated German war documents. During the war he was in the Secret Service.
