{Text of biographical or historical note, in paragraphs; separate each with paragraph tags} The Heart Mountain Relocation Center was one of ten relocation centers constructed as a result of Executive Order 9066 (EO 9066), which President Franklin Roosevelt signed into effect on February 19, 1942. The Center, located near the town of Cody in northwest Wyoming, held Japanese American internees from 1942-1945. The camp reached a maximum population of 10,767, making it the third largest settlement in Wyoming. Internees at Heart Mountain included residents evacuated from Washington, Oregon, and California. In addition to the barracks housing the families living at Heart Mountain, the complex also consisted of a hospital, a pumping station for the irrigation of nearby fields, and a high school. Operations at Heart Mountain officially ended on November 10, 1945.
