Ian Mackenzie Ringgenberg was born on May 6, 1986 in Duncan, Oklahoma. He received his B.S. (2008) in anthropology from Iowa State University. He is the fourth generation of his family to attend Iowa State.
At Iowa State, Ringgenberg studied abroad in Mongolia for a semester in the fall of 2006. He was a member and graduate of the Honors Program, for which he completed an oral history project documenting student life at Iowa State. Additionally, he was involved in many campus activities. He was appointed to the 2007-2008 GSB president's cabinet as Director of Student Affairs. He served as an officer on several campus groups including the Anthropology Club, LAS Student Council, Honors Student Board, and Harwood House. He was the 2008 recipient of the W. Robert Parks award for Outstanding Honors Student. He worked in the ISU Library Special Collections Department from 2006-2009.
