Agnes E. Wells was dean of women at the University of Indiana before retiring in 1938. She then served as acting dean of women and mathematics professor at the University of Michigan until 1944. She was a member of St. John Episcopal Church in Saginaw, Michigan, the National Education Association, Daughters of the American Revolution and and served as a past president of the Michigan Chapter Daughters of 1812. She was also a former chairman of the National Woman's Party.
