Henry "Chick" Orville Trask was born in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1903 and graduated from the University of Maine in 1927 with a bachelor's degree in forestry. As an undergraduate student, he participated in a number of campus activities including the student senate, Prism yearbook board, freshman football team, track team, and served as editor-in-chief of the Forestry Club's annual publication, Maine Forester. Trask continued his education at the Yale School of Forestry in New Haven, Connecticut, completing a master's degree in 1933. He went on to serve as District Supervisor for Northeastern Timber Salvage Administration at Athol, Massachusetts, to serve in World War II as a member of the U.S. Army Air Corps, and later held a number of forestry positions within the state of California. He retired in 1971 after 38 years of service as a silviculturist with the United States Forest Service. He died November 13, 1998, at his residence in Redding, California.
