Johnston, Gladys, 1885-1971.

Born in New York City in 1885, Gladys Johnston moved to El Paso, Texas, with her mother and two brothers. One of her brothers, Harry Farnes Johnston, reportedly had business interests connected with the mining industry in Mexico. Miss Johnston worked in the credit department at the Popular Dry Goods Company until her retirement in 1959. Upon her death in 1971 at the age of 86, she left a large bequest in cash and personal gifts to the University of Texas at El Paso, where a memorial fund was set up in her name.
