University of Rhode Island. Office of Sports Informtion.
Intercollegiate sports and a department to oversee the program at the University of Rhode Island trace their beginnings to the founding of the school as the Rhode Island College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts in 1892. Over the years an office unit of the athletic program, under a variety of names, has reported, chronicled, promoted and supported URI sports through such activities as issuing press releases to local, regional and national media, compiling statistics, and publishing programs and media guides. These duties are carried out today by the Office of Sports Information (renamed the Athletic Media Relations Office in 1999).
