Cook, Harry DeWitt, 1817-
Captain of Company G of the 4th Illinois Cavalry who mustered out as a major in 1864 and was then commissioned a colonel by Governor Ogelsby and sent to Washington as an agent to collect back pay, claims and bounties due to Illinois soldiers from the federal government. Settled 4,761 claims before he returned to Illinois in January 1869.
