Biography

Robert Jesse Stoller was born December 15, 1924 in Bronxville, New York; BA and MA, psychology, University of California at Berkeley; became professor of psychiatry at UCLA School of Medicine, 1954; wrote many books, including Sex and gender: on the Development of Masculinity and Femininity (1968), Splitting: a Case of Female Masculinity (1973), and Observing the Erotic Imagination (1985); co-wrote Cognitive Science and Psychoanalysis (1988) with K.M. Colby; died in Los Angeles on September 6, 1991.
