George Blair was born on 10 September 1874 in Edinburgh. He began his degree at Glasgow University in 1890 within the Faculties of Arts and Medicine, studying Engineering, Chemistry, Maths and Engineering Drawing. He went on to study Engineering II, Engineering Drawing II and Naval Architecture in his second year; and Natural Philosophy, Naval Architecture and Maths (Senior) in his third year. In his final year he took classes in Engineering, Engineering Drawing and Natural Philosophy, having switched to the Faculty of Science. He graduated with a BSc in 1895 and, according to the General Council Registers, went on to become a mechanical engineer. He died in 24th October 1947.
