Illinois. State Commission to Investigate Living Conditions of the Urban Colored Population.
The State Commission to Investigate Living Conditions of the Urban Colored Population was created by General Assembly on July 1, 1939. Under terms of act Commission was to "inquire into economic, cultural, health and living conditions of urban colored population of the State," and to report to General Assembly before March 1, 1941 with recommendations to improve these conditions. After preliminary investigation Commission decided that General Assembly would have to allow more time for Commission to complete its inquiries. Consequently General Assembly appropriated additional funds which allowed Commission to operate until 1943.
