Lalley, J. M. (Joseph Michael), 1896-1980.
Biographical Note: Joseph Michael Lalley (1896-1980) was a newspaperman, literary critic, and conservative writer. He worked on newspapers in Philadelphia and Baltimore before spending most of his career (1937-61) with the Washington Post as book reviewer and editorial writer. From 1963 to 1980 he was an associate editor in charge of book reviews for the conservative journal Modern Age.
Lalley was also book reviewer (1947-50) for the foreign policy review Human Events and contributed reviews and review essays to the New Yorker and the Freeman among other magazines. In 1924 he married Spalding Parker, and they had six children.
