Moshe Lovy was born in 1914 and grew up in an orphanage. He joined Betar and helped prepare Jewish youth for immigration to Palestine. He served in the Middle East in the Yugoslav Army, returned to Yugoslavia to assist immigrants to Palestine once again, set out himself across Europe to Palestine, was detained on Cyprus, and eventually took part in the Israeli War of Independence. He was involved in several famous incidents such as the Acco prison break-in and the Altalena. As of June 2000, he lived in Forest Hills, N.Y.
