The Long Island Biological Association (LBA) was organized in 1924 to take over control of the biological laboratory at Cold Spring Harbor from the Brooklyn Institute of Arts and Sciences, which had founded and run the lab since 1890. In 1962 the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) was reorganized as an independent unit and the property was conveyed to CSHL by LIBA, which continues to support the Laboratory and is represented on the CSHL Board of Trustees.
