New Garden Monthly Meeting (Society of Friends : Chester County, Pa.)

New Garden Monthly Meeting was established in 1718 by Chester [Concord] Quarterly Meeting out of Newark [Kennett] Monthly Meeting. It was transferred to Western Quarterly Meeting in 1758. At the time of the Hicksite Separation of 1827, the monthly meeting split into Hicksite and Orthodox branches. New Garden Monthly Meeting (Hicksite), which reunited with Philadelphia Yearly Meeting (Orthodox) in 1955, was the forerunner of the current monthly meeting.

Ruth Anna Lindley (née Rutter) was born on 1mo 3, 1768. She became a Friend by convincement and was received into membership by Exeter Monthly Meeting (Berks County, Pa.) on 5mo 30, 1787. At age 22, she was accepted as a minister. She married Jacob Lindley, a widower and public Friend from New Garden, Chester County, Pa., on 6mo 26, 1800 at Pottstown Meeting House. Later that year, she requested and was granted a certificate of removal to New Garden Monthly Meeting. Her transfer is recorded in the minutes of New Garden Monthly Meeting, 11mo 1, 1800. She died on 9mo 5, 1810 in the 42nd year of her age.
