Ship pilot of Dutch descent and resident of Charleston, S.C.; name sometimes spelled as "Alderts"; native of Netherlands; granted U.S. citizenship, 1922, in Philadelphia, Penn.; father of Joseph Eastburn Aldert, Benjamin Sikke Aldert, and Annie Simpson Aldert; senior partner of father and son business that piloted ships out of Charleston harbor; sons acted as blockade runners during Civil War.
