George McCutchen (1876-1951) was born in Williamsburg County, S.C.; graduated from South Carolina College in 1898; married Lilla Kennerly Johnstone on 22 Dec. 1904; served as professor of economics at University of South Carolina, 1900-1948; his wife, Lilla McCutchen (1877-1954), was daughter of S.C. Senator Alan Johnstone and Lilla Kennerly Johnstone of Newberry, S.C.; member of Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and Current Literature Club of Columbia, S.C.
