Weinstock was born in Pittsburgh, PA, on Feb. 12, 1903; moved to Los Angeles, CA, in 1911; attended UCLA, 1920-23, and served as sports editor of the Daily Grizzly; joined LA Daily News as a sports reporter in 1924; became managing editor of the News in 1934, and became an editorial columnist three years later; subsequently wrote for the LA Mirror and LA Times; wrote two books, My LA (1947) and Muscatel at noon (1951), as well as short stories and magazine articles; died in LA on Jan. 8, 1970.
