Shortess, Robert, 1797-1878.

In 1839, Robert Shortess traveled to Oregon from Illinois and was soon converted to Christianity at the Willamette Mission. Later, he served as a member of the general committee in Oregon's Provisional Government and eventually settled near Astoria. Shortess served as Clatsop County Indian sub-agent and clerk of School District No. 4.
