Hinckley, Harold Alonzo, 1894-1991
Harold Alonzo Hinckley (1894-1991) was a doctor in California. He served as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in New Zealand between 1915 and 1919.
Harold Alonzo Hinckley was born on October 21, 1894, in Hinckley, Utah, to Rose May Robison Hinckley and Azra Alonzo Hinckley. Harold was the eldest of fourteen children. Harold served a Mormon mission on the North Island of New Zealand, and worked among the Maori. Elder Hinckley served a four-year mission from 1915 to 1919 primarily under Mission President James N. Lambert. Harold's companions were Elder Heaton, Elder Hyrum M. Christensen, Elder Hiri Rangi, and Elder Holbrook. Elder Hinckley was also acquainted with Elder Broadbent and Elder Dennings who were "called to serve among the Europeans" in New Zealand, as well as Elder Morrison who was a mission secretary.
Harold Hinckley married Rhoda Richards on July 12, 1925, in the Salt Lake City Temple. Rhoda and Harold had three daughters: LaRue, Janice, and Charlene. Harold received a bachelors degree in chemistry in 1929 from the University of Utah and then went on to graduate from the University of Colorado's medical school in 1932. From 1939 to 1984 Harold practiced medicine in Long Beach, California. Harold died June 22, 1991, in Los Angeles, California.
