George Gardner was a cable system operator, supplier of cable equipment and consulting engineer. After returning from service in the U.S. Army where he maintained the EE-8 phone system for the 801st Military Battalion, Gardner graduated with a B.S. in mechanical engineering from Pennsylvania State University in 1949, and then began his career working for Sylvania Electronic Products Co. In 1951 he founded his first cable TV company, Pennwire Television Company, in Lewistown, Penn., and in 1953 formed a cable TV supply company that engineered, constructed, and distributed cable TV products. During his career he founded, purchased, operated, and sold cable TV systems, as well as being involved in professional cable TV organizations, including the Pennsylvania Cable Television Association, formerly Pennsylvania Community Antenna Association, and the National Cable Television Association. He also founded an equipment supply company, TV Cable Supply Co. of Hershey, Pa. By the early 1990s he owned systems in Pennsylvania, Mississippi, West Virginia, and Arizona. In 1971 he became a Cable Television Pioneer as part of a program sponsored by NCTA to recognize key cable industry players.
