Organized fund-raising activities began in 1897 with a Semi-Centennial Fund. In 1913 the Grinnell College Foundation was established to work with the Trustees to manage real estate given to the College. During the first half of the 20th century, the College Treasurer and Business Officers were involved with development efforts along with the President and Trustees. In the early 1960s the college hired its first fund-raising officer and from that time activities have been managed by the Development Office.
