Edith Falk, daughter of Karl Falk,of Miltenberg am Main was born on July 5, 1911 at Miltenberg. During the 1920s she attended high school and professional school in Miltenberg and Frankfurt, and from 1930-1931 she worked as a kindergarten teacher in Berlin. In 1935-1936 she moved with her father and stepmother to New York City. Until 1943, she continued working as a kindergarten teacher and as a freelancer for newspapers. From 1943-1948, she worked for the United States Army Civil Censorship Division, first domestically and then abroad in Germany.
