Marian K. Towne (1933- ), born in Freeman, South Dakota, holds degrees from Bethel College (Kansas), the University of Chicago, and the Christian Theological Seminary (Indianapolis). Towne worked as an educator for most of her professional career. She was a founding member Gleaners Food Bank and Caring Community, Inc., and has been president of Church Women United in Indiana. Her other civic roles include membership in the Fairview Presbyterian Church, the League of Women Voters, and the Indiana Democratic Party. In 1986 Towne was the Democratic candidate for Indiana State Representative in District 49. The mother of four children, she is married to Dr. Edgar A. Towne.
