Richard I. Manning served as Governor of South Carolina, 1824 to 1826, and was later elected to the U.S. House of Representatives as a Jacksonian Democrat, serving from 1834 until his death in 1836; husband of Elizabeth Peyre Richardson (1794-1873), a union that produced at least four children, including Richard Irvine Manning (1817-1861), who was the father at least six children, including Gov. Richard I. Manning (1859-1931).
