Edward Alonzo Chittenden was born on August 8.1841 in Williston, Vermont, the son of Truman A. and Betsy (Rhodes) Chittenden. George Elliott Randall was born on June 14, 1847 in New Hampshire. Both were serving at Rouse's Point, New York at the time of the Saint Albans raid on October 19, 1864. After the war, Edward A. Chittenden moved to Saint Albans, Vermont and worked as a railroad clerk. George E. Randall moved to Newbury, Vermont where he was employed as a telegraph operator.
