Geoffrey Morley-Mower, 1918-2005, was born in London, England. He served 31 years with the Royal Air Force and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Force Cross. His assignments included India, the Middle East, Gibraltar and Cyprus flying Hawker Hurricanes, American Mustangs, and subsonic jet aircraft.

Morley-Mower was a professor of English at James Madison University from 1968 until his death in 2005.
