Smith, Jeremiah, 1805-1874
A native of South Carolina, Smith moved to Indiana in 1817 and settled in Winchester, Randolph County, where he began practicing law in 1837. Smith was a circuit judge, built the Franklin House Hotel, helped plan Union City, Ind., and wrote several works, including two histories of Randolph County.
