Robert Wood was a 1906 graduate of the Michigan College of Mines and an employee of the Quincy Mining Company at the smelter from 1908-1916.
Built by the Quincy Mining Company, the Quincy Smelter used heat and chemical processes to turn copper ore into ingots. The ingots were then sold and shipped to factories where they were turned into products such as copper wire or tubing.
