Born in Jambes, Belgium 1845, died in Paris 1922; militant freethinker; member of the Brussels Federation of the International Working Men's Association (IWMA) in 1866, in 1869 member of its General Council; delegate to the International Congress of Freethinkers in Naples; took the side of the anarchists in 1872; took part in the Catalonian uprising in 1873; expelled from France in 1880, went to London; friend of Johann Most; was arrested in Germany in 1881, served two years in prison; accused by Josef Peukert of the betrayal of Johann Neve leading to Neve's arrest in Germany in 1885; therefore expelled from the Communistische Arbeiter-Bildungs-Verein in London; returned to France after the suspension of his exile; contributed to L'Humanité nouvelle from 1897; published in 1903/4 with Costes the Revue générale de bibliographie française.
