Monopole, Louis S., 1921-1982.
Louis S. Monopole was born in Pa. in 1921 and enlisted in the Army at Wilkes Barre, Pa. in 1942. At the time of enlistment he was unmarried, had completed grammar school and working as a farmer. Monopole joined the 10th Mountain Division at Ft. Lewis, Wash. where he was initially assigned to Company E, later with Company I of the 87th Mountain Infantry. During World War II, Monopole participated in the invasion of Kiska Island, Alaska in August 1943 and in combat operations in Italy. He died in 1982.
