Charles Evans Kilbourne (b. Dec. 23, 1872, Fort Whipple, Virginia-d. Nov. 1963), Major General in the U.S. Army, graduated from the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) in 1894 and served in the Spanish-American War, in the Philippines, and in China. During World War I, he served with the 89th Division and commanded the 36th Heavy Artillery Brigade and 3rd Infantry Brigade in France and Germany. He was also head of the American Mission inspecting coast defenses of European states and Turkey. General Kilbourne retired from the Army in 1936 and became superintendent of VMI.
