Hide Profile

The National Association of Women Lawyers grew out of the Women Lawyers Club, which was formed by 18 women lawyers in New York City in 1899. Its first major project was support for women's suffrage, a concern that was featured prominently in the Women Lawyers' Journal, which began publication in 1911. Other organizational goals included appointment of women to the bench, the right of women to serve on juries, the enactment of child labor legislation, minimum wage laws, and the defeat of protective labor legislation.
