John Pearn is Professor, Paediatrician and Physician in the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health at Royal Brisbane Hospital in Brisbane and Preceptor of the School of Medicine at the University of Queensland. He is Patron of the University of Queensland Medical Society and a former Surgeon-General of the Australian Defence Force. Major General Pearn has worked as a paediatrician and physician in Papua New Guinea, Rwanda, Sumatra and in Aboriginal Communities in Australia. For six months, he was a Senior Research Fellow at the Institut Pasteur, Paris.

John Pearn is Professor of Child Health and Paediatrics at the University of Queensland. His clinical interests encompass general paediatrics, medical genetics, clinical toxicology and accident prevention. John Pearn served as a doctor-soldier in the Royal Australian Army Medical Corps for 30 years. He was one of the founders of The Australian Society of the History of Medicine, and has received numerous medals for his work. John Pearn is the author of some 20 books and chapters in books on clinical medicine and the history of medicine.
