Cornell, Charlotte Hawley, 1818-1893.

Charlotte Hawley Cornell was born near Birmingham, England (1818) and later emigrated with her parents to New York (1825). She married Chauncey Cornell, superintendent of the Long Island Railroad (1838). The Cornells sailed to California (1852) where Mr. Cornell and his brother farmed near Oakland. They later operated a store in Alvarado. The Cornell family moved to San Francisco where Chauncey was a Justice of the Peace and superintendent of the distributing reservoir of the Spring Valley Water Company (1880s). Mr. Cornell died in 1891 and Charlotte Cornell probably died in 1893.
