During the 25th anniversary celebration of the University in 1989-1990, a class in the graduate archives program conducted oral history interviews with twelve persons who played a role in the founding or the early history of the University. For each interview either a full transcript or an index was created by the student. A roundtable discussion on the founding of the University was held in August 1989. Participants included founding legislators, administrators from the Amherst campus and former Governor Endicott Peabody.
